Carwow thought a Porsche 911 GT2 RS would make a decent match for a McLaren 765LT and a Ferrari 296 GTB in a short acceleration race. All three cars have their merits, so let’s take a closer look.
Starting with the 296 GTB, it uses a 3.0-liter V6 in tandem with an electric motor to drive the rear wheels with 830 PS (819 hp / 610 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is of the eight-speed dual-clutch type, and the whole ride weighs 1,570 kilos (3,461 pounds).
The McLaren makes do with a 4.0-liter V8 churning out 765 PS (755 hp / 563 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Its power is not on par with the Ferrari, but there is no discounting the curb weight – just 1,340 kilos, or 2,954 pounds. The drive is on the rear axle.
The Porsche looks like an outsider with its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six making 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). A seven-speed PDK transmission drives the rear wheels, and the weight is in between the two rivals at 1,470 kg (3,240 lbs).
