A $8,000 toy: Amalgam releases a 1:8 replica of the McLaren Senna

Amalgam, a company which specializes in building replicas of various things, has released a highly detailed miniature copy of the McLaren Senna hypercar. The toy costs U.S. $8,000, so you could just as well buy a cheap real car for the same kind of money.

The vehicle is a 1:8 replica of the original and is 60 cm (24”) long. If you would like it personalized to your taste, prepare up to U.S. 10,500 instead.

The Amalgam team has reportedly spent 3,000 hours working on the project. To simplify the task, they enlisted the help of McLaren design professionals, who granted them access to the original technical documentation of the hypercar.

It takes at least 35 days to assemble a single car like this. The total production amount of McLaren Senna replicas isn’t being revealed; its real prototype exists in 499 copies.

There are more expensive imitation vehicles out there, though. For instance, a replica of the Porsche 917 Salzburg used to be sold for as much as U.S. $15,000.
