McLaren is preparing to release the most powerful and fastest-going supercar in its entire history. The vehicle had previously received a provisional ID “BP23 Hyper-GT”, but the latest press release refers to it using its final production name, “Speedtail”.
The new hypercar inherits the best qualities of its ideological predecessor – the McLaren F1 – and accelerates to a record-breaking 391 km/h (243 mph).
The McLaren Speedtail can accommodate up to three people, with the driver’s seat situated in the middle front position and the passengers’ seats located in the back.
The hypercar will come driven by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a gasoline engine and several electric motors. The manufacturer doesn’t reveal its performance, but rumor has it it might incorporate a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the likes of which come with the McLaren 720S.
The company plans to build only 106 copies of the McLaren Speedtail. All cars are already sold out in pre-orders, and the assembly will begin in 2019. The end price may well turn out to lie north of U.S. $2,500,000.
