McLaren had planned the overseas launch of its first hybrid sports car – the Artura – several months ago, but the ongoing chip crisis has now pushed its release back to early July 2022.
According to Automotive News citing Roger Ormisher, representative of the company, the first deliveries are set to be made in early July next year. This would not be the first delay on record, either: originally, the company had intended to launch the Artura a year ago. Chip shortage disrupted those plans, forcing a delay until the fall of 2021, but the automaker was once again unable to procure enough components to start production.
The Artura comes powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and an electric motor jointly rated at 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and 804 Nm (593 lb-ft) of torque. It needs three seconds flat to go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) and maxes out at 329 km/h (204 mph).
