McLaren ponders launching an electric sedan and an SUV, but not a hypercar

Michael Leiters, former Ferrari CTO and the new leader of McLaren, has shared some insight into the future of the carmaker. According to Auto Express, the British company will be launching at least a couple EVs soon, but a hypercar is not on the list.

The planned electric sedan will be aiming at the same market niche as the Porsche Taycan, while the SUV will be competing with virtually every other rival in the segment. Designing a nature-friendly hypercar is not a priority for the company, Leiters admits explaining that the current technology is still not mature enough and ‘there is no need to hurry.’

No launch dates were provided. It appears likely that McLaren will team up with another major automaker in its EV endeavors. BMW in particular has been a long-standing partner.

As of right now, the petrol-electric McLaren Artura (featured in the gallery here) is the closest the British marque has to an EV.
