The British supercar maker goes for something different with this powerful, street-legal electric bicycle series.
It comprises two lineups, Extreme and Sport. Both have been developed by McLaren engineers and designers with no third-party involvement, the company claims. More specifically, it was the same design team that worked on the Artura hybrid.
Both bikes utilize the same electric motor rated at 600W of nominal power and 825W of boost power. The torque maxes at 161 Nm (120 lb-ft). The top speed is capped at 32 km/h (20 mph). There are also low-end variants powered by a 250W motor.
The main difference is that the McLaren Sport only has a suspension fork at the front end, while the Extreme version has suspension at both ends. As such, it is the better choice for all kinds of heavy off-road rides. Both ship with Pirelli All-Terrain tires and feature an LCD dash display on the handlebar, with five drive presets to switch between.
Price-wise, the Sport version starts from $8,000–9,000 and the Extreme from $11,000–12,000. Both will be limited in production, but McLaren doesn’t provide any specific numbers.
