An iconic McLaren F1 in perfect condition could cost you as much as $15 million, according to some experts – but this specific example managed to attract $20.5 million.
The car was the 25th produced and received a chassis number 029. Despite being 26 years old, it has only 387 kilometers on the counter. It is also the only example to be finished outside and inside in Creighton Brown, a unique color named after a McLaren exec.
A customer from Japan originally ordered the supercar and later sold it to the United States. It still retains all the OEM accessories and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
Out of the 106 total units assembled, only 64 F1 models were road-legal. The previous price record for the model amounted to $19,805,000: a coupe with nearly 21,500 kilometers (13,360 miles) on the odometer sold for that amount a couple of years ago. Another F1 went up on sale this spring, but while estimations said it would fetch around $15 million, the outcome of the auction was not announced.
