Considering that McLaren only produced six examples of its F1 LM supercar (including the prototype), buying an original with money these days is borderline impossible. An enthusiast from South Africa, however, decided to get one the hard way – and succeeded!
The author of the project started it 23 long years ago, working on it step by step, recreating the original McLaren bodywork based on existing photos and scale replicas (no official blueprints was ever published).
Once satisfied with the shape of the car, he put it onto a custom frame along with numerous components fabricated at home, slotted in a massive BMW V12 TT under the hood, and hooked it up to an Audi six-speed manual gearbox.
In the 15-minute video, the creator of the shockingly detailed replica tells us everything there is to know about the project that took over two decades to complete. The test driver points out that the vehicle definitely feels like a full-fledged racecar.
