Arois, a Japanese car rental company, has recently finished building a unique drift car based on the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 racer. National drift star Daigo Saito took part in the project, but it will not be available for renting, unfortunately.
One of the main things the project focused on was the suspension: the car had to be sufficiently maneuverable and allow for extreme cornering. The driver was provided with mandatory hydraulic handbrake and a more convenient round steering wheel instead of the racing yoke.
In its stock form, the McLaren racer comes equipped with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW). We are not aware of any powertrain modifications in this specific project, but the video proves that the carbon-framed track weapon has more power than it knows what to do with.
In fact, it makes us a bit worried about the future of the car. Crashes aren’t exactly uncommon in drift racing, and wrecking a carbon McLaren such as this one would be painful, indeed. Here’s hoping the driver knows to stay safe.
