Patent pics and leaked spy shots of the new McLaren Sabre spawned numerous theories about its identity. Most agreed that it would be the marque’s new flagship, the most powerful and the fastest McLaren to date. Few guessed that it would just be a Senna spin-off.
A dealership in Beverly Hills, CA, spoke first and revealed all the relevant specs. As it turns out, the Sabre is a USA-only release that comprises only 15 units.
McLaren Special Operations co-designed every car with its buyer, taking care to keep it legal in the States. No specific acceleration figures are available, but the Sabre is still the most powerful non-hybrid supercar on the lineup with a V8 TT, 835 PS (823 hp / 614 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). Even the extreme Senna LM lags a bit behind with 825 PS (814 hp / 607 kW) and the same maximum torque.
The Sabre can reach 351 km/h (218 mph), making it the fastest McLaren-branded coupe. Out of the entire range, the Speedtail is faster with its 403 km/h (250 mph), and so is the iconic F1 model, but the former is a three-seater, and neither is road-legal.
Customers who ordered their Sabres enjoyed nearly limitless customization opportunities, the company reports. Among other things, they were invited to travel to Great Britain, visit the local McLaren Design Centre, and try their skills at the private Thermal Club Raceway in California.
Prices remain unknown, but all 15 units have already been sold. The first client in the queue will be getting their ride soon, while the others will have to wait a few months.
