This McLaren Speedtail took three months to paint

McLaren has shown an unusual art car take on its Speedtail model. The team that carried out the job spent six weeks applying the paint and another six to prepare the car and finalize the process.

You would be justified to think the livery looks like a test mule wrap: the pattern actually corresponds to the wrap the original Speedtail prototype car wore to the streets. The big difference is that it is a full-fledged paintjob this time around, rather than some vinyl.

MSO did a bit of training first using one of the assembled Speedtails to draw upon. The goal was to figure out how the assorted lines would look on a car body given its complex curves. Color-wise, the team claims silver references the latest McLaren F1 and grey pays homage to the earlier McLaren F1 GTR that won gold in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 26 years ago.

The car will be exhibited live for everyone to see at the Beverly Hills Car Festival.
