This is what a McLaren Speedtail reincarnated as an electric guitar could look like

U.S.-based company Dean Gordon Guitars has attended this year’s gathering of the National Association of Music Merchants with a cool electric guitar design inspired by the McLaren Speedtail. Both the overall design and the materials used echo those used in the the Speedtail X2 Prototype, which was an essential milestone in bringing the hypercar into production.

The X2 Prototype has run numerous acceleration tests for McLaren, hitting its intended top speed of 403 km/h (250 mph) more than 30 times at the Kennedy Space Center runway in Florida. When the car went into production, it was recognized as the marque’s fastest vehicle of all time.

The guitar in question is a Dean Gordon Virtus featuring an alder soundboard and a maple fingerboard. Other materials used include ebony, aluminum, carbon fiber and leather. Everything in the design, from the Saragon Quartz main color to the way the sound pickups are designed, is a reference to the exterior or the cabin of its source of inspiration.

The Speedtail was released as part of McLaren’s Ultimate Series, sporting a coupe body style with three seats inside (the driver’s seat is mounted in the middle). The company considered it a successor-of-sorts both to the iconic F1, which had the same interior layout, and the part-electric P1. Only 106 units were made, and some are now being flipped on the aftermarket for more than the launch price.
