Piper Motorsport has unveiled a project it has been working upon for the past 5 years. The task seemed impossible: to transfer all the parts of the modern Mercedes-AMG C63 into the body of the classical Mercedes 190E produced in the mid-1980s.
This included the entire drivetrain, the brakes, the dashboard, the electronics and even the floor pan. In order to fit all of the above into the smaller body of the E190, engineers first had to shorten the wheelbase of the C63 and then determine optimal mount points for the engine and transmission. Interestingly, transferring the dashboard proved the easiest of all: it fitted the inside of the old E190 almost perfectly.
Needless to say, the project necessitated designing and producing numerous custom parts, including the entire center console. The engine bay was stripped of many components to make room for the 6.2-liter engine.
Piper Motorsport didn’t say anything about the performance of the modded vehicle, but it is likely beside the point anyway. The very fact of its existence is astounding!
