Mercedes teases ‘completely safe car’, promises reveal in summer

In an announcement made earlier today, car manufacturer Mercedes has promised to reveal an innovative prototype version of a ‘completely safe car’ in summer 2019. Called ESF, the car will reportedly bring together the best and latest in the automotive safety tech.

Ola Källenius, the marque’s R&D Chief, did not reveal any of the technical specifications of the upcoming vehicle, but said that the company’s first priority right now is to ensure zero deaths in traffic accidents. Mercedes plans to achieve this ambitious goal by introducing breakthrough safety-oriented solutions and implementing better protection for the driver and passengers inside the moving car.

It should be noted that the Mercedes-Benz ESF was a car model that the company used to produce in the 1970s.It came equipped with multiple airbags and safety belt pretensioners, which reportedly safeguarded the driver and passengers in frontal collisions when going at 64 km/h (40 mph) or below. The last Mercedes-Benz ESF rolled off the assembly line ten years ago.

In turn, the new ESF Concept will take advantage of an AI-based assistant that would be able to process large amounts of data in real time.
