German car manufacturer Mercedes has taken the wraps off its new eight-seat, all-electric minivan called the EQV. The car is still in a concept stage, with the final production version to debut in September 2019 and go on sale in 2021.
The Mercedes EQV houses a large 100 kWh traction battery at the bottom and comes driven by a 201-hp (150-kW) electric engine mounted on the front axle. It offers around 400 kilometers (250 miles) of all-electric driving range, and the manufacturer says you only need to charge it for 15 minutes to gain an extra 100 km / 62 mi. Then again, you can charge it overnight using the dedicated charger and a regular wall socket.
In terms of design, the MPV is largely reminiscent of the current V-Class. The company argues that clients mostly like the exterior and cabin of the latter, so there is little call for change.
The new Mercedes EQV sports 19-inch wheels, LED-based lighting throughout, huge air intakes, and assorted chrome elements used for decoration.
Inside, the concept car houses an MBUX head unit with AI and voice control features. You can also toggle the climate control and pay at charging stations by means of a special mobile app.
