Mercedes-Maybach plans to introduce the world to its first-ever mass-produced crossover/SUV before the end of 2019. The exact date remains undisclosed, but there are certain hints that the company will be holding a dedicated reveal event in China. Sales will start in early 2020.
Maybach’s first SUV will be produced in the same factory in the USA where the company builds the current GLS, GLE, and GLE Coupe. The car will reach the mass market priced at around U.S. 200,000 and will have to compete with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga.
From the technical point of view, the new crossover utility vehicle comes based on the third-gen GLS platform and packs a six-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 560 hp (418 kW). The rest of its technical parameters remain unknown.
In 2018, Mercedes-Maybach unveiled a design study called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept. The car came equipped with four electric motors joining forces for some 750 hp (560 kW). We can safely expect the marque’s first SUV to inherit many of its principal features.
