New Mercedes EQE Tesla Model S looks like yet another Tesla Model S killer

Mercedes-Benz will be releasing a new all-electric sports car called the EQE on the market in 2022. Priced at around 75,000 U.S. dollars, the new model will occupy a niche directly below the range-topping EQS and become the primary rival of the Tesla Model S.

Technically, the car will be based on the current E-Class, but it will still get a unique exterior along with an EQC-like front end. Built on the MEA aluminum chassis, it will be marginally shorter than the E-Class while still offering slightly more legroom inside (like the latest S-Class, the company states).

Powering the newcomer are 2 engines jointly rated above 400 horsepower (300 kilowatts) and 765 Nm (564 pound-feet) of torque. Mercedes-Benz says it is considering giving the entry-level version of the car just one engine instead of two, mounted on the rear axle.

Among other things, the car will ship with air suspension, an SAE Level 3 self-driving system, and a traction battery sufficient for 600 kilometers (375 miles) of driving range.
