Mercedes-AMG One superhybrid gets pushed back to 2021

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its latest hybrid hypercar concept – the One – at the 2017 Paris Motor Show. The vehicle came powered by a 1.6-liter, turbocharged Formula One V6 engine that could rev up to 11,000 RPM. Joining forces with multiple electric motors, it delivered around 1,000 horsepower (745 kilowatts) to the wheels.

However, making the professional race-spec engine street-legal proved a harder challenge than the German carmaker originally anticipated. The company just announced it would have to push the launch date back to 2021. No explanation was given, but we suspect the limited service life of the engine to be among the chief reasons for the delay. That said, strict environmental laws might also factor in.

On an interesting side note, the company has already sold out the entire planned production run (275 vehicles) in pre-orders. Unofficial sources say the final asking price is U.S. $2.7 million, and the advance payment is $500,000.
