German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has released photos of the Vision Mercedes Simplex Concept, a modern reimagination of the marque’s very first model, the 1901 Mercedes 35 PS.
The main design highlights of the retro roadster include exposed wheels, an engine cowl suspended on belts, a cockpit without any unnecessary details, and a driver’s seat/steering wheel layout traditional for age-old racecars.
Even though the replica pays homage to a 118-year-old vehicle, it sports a number of innovative solutions. For instance, there is a 3D display with a rose-gold bezel substituting for the front grille, and a fuel cell-based powertrain instead of an internal combustion engine.
The Vision Mercedes Simplex Concept will premiere at the upcoming Design Essentials show in Nice, France.
