Mercedes-Benz says it will ditch ICE engines in several years

R&D Director of Daimler AG has officially announced that Mercedes-Benz will stop producing ICE-powered cars in several years. The development of new gas engines has already stopped, and the generation currently on the market may very well be the last.

In full compliance with the modern trends, the carmaker will instead try to focus on fully electric vehicles, which will gradually phase out the traditional cars on the lineup. That said, this strategy might be revised later if sufficient reasons present themselves.

Daimler AG already has quite a few fully electric vehicles on offer, including Mercedes-Benz-branded EQC (SUV) and EQV (MPV). The range will soon expand to incorporate the EQS sedan/saloon and the EQB mini-SUV. Aside from this, note that the Mercedes-based Smart compact series has already made a permanent switch to electric power.
