Mercedes-Benz said it would be bringing an ‘absolutely new’ prototype car to the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las-Vegas. The company did not specify which kind, but most bets are on EV.
Aside from this, the company announced that it would be postponing the launch of its newest electric SUV, the EQC, for a whole year in the USA. This means a delay from the first quarter of 2020 to early 2021. Mercedes explains that it desperately needs to satisfy the larger-than-expected market demand in Europe first. Understandably enough, the news left many Mercedes fans in the US frustrated, especially given that both the BMW iX3 and the Tesla Model Y are debuting soon.
When the EQC does ship in the USA, it will cost $68,895 for the 400 4Matic trim powered by dual engines jointly rated at 408 hp (304 kW) and 765 Nm (564 lb-ft) of torque. The car will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and offer 450 kilometers (280 miles) of NEDC range.
The EQC will make it to the CES-2020 exhibition stand despite the delay, and will occupy a place next to the Vision EQS Concept and another concept car (mentioned above).
Mercedes plans to expand its EQ range to 10 EVs by 2025, including EQA & EQB compact SUVs and many other models. Last year’s CES was marked by the premiere of the second-gen CLA 4-Dor Coupe.
