The TRON-esque design study, which debuted at the CES-2020 in Las-Vegas, draws inspiration from James Cameron movie Avatar.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the all-electric Vision AVTR symbolizes the unity between Man and Nature, which in turn echoes the absolute harmony between the Na’vi race and the flora and fauna of their home planet, Pandora. The car scans the heartbeat of the driver and causes the interior lighting to pulsate accordingly. The styling is heavily inspired by the Na’vi dwellings from the movie franchise, while the bulky wheels look like cross-sections of tree trunks. The company claims that many finishing materials have been recycled.
A 110-kWh battery gives the concept vehicle up to 700 kilometers (435 miles) of range, while the peak engine output amounts to 470 horsepower (350 kW). The AWD chassis notably supports sideways driving, but you cannot take the controls into your own hands, because the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is completely autonomous.
As you probably have guessed, the concept car will never reach the mass market.
