Mercedes-Benz announces a 1,200-km / 745-mi capable battery car

Mercedes has launched Vision EQXX, its next tech development program that should result in the emergence of a “highly efficient EV with unbelievable range”.

The future concept car remains a dark horse so far. All we are allowed to know is its silhouette (see pictures), single-charge range (1200 kilometers, or 745 miles), and the responsible subdivision (Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, the designer of Formula 1 engines).

The prototype shown here seems to have an elongated body that has little in common with any of the Benz models currently on sale. It is likely based on the latest MEA platform and supports ultra-rapid charging.

Chances are good that the car will be a pure design study and will never make it into production as is. Instead, it will donate its tech to various Mercedes-branded production EVs. In the meantime, the company is getting a slew of other models ready to rumble, including the EQS, the EQE and the EQS SUV (see video).
