Mercedes-AMG is now into restomodding, too

It looks like the restomod craze is in full swing! Actually, as of recently, some major car manufacturers have been getting into the game as well. Take the Mercedes-AMG, for example, which has released not one, but 11 restomods based on the classical 1955 Mercedes 300 SL (W198).

All cars will soon go under the hammer in Japan priced at €1M - €1.25M or above that estimation. Unlike most other restomods out there, they aren’t exactly state-of-the-art in terms of the on-board tech, but rather use the tech of the Mercedes SL60 AMG series that used to be produced in 1993 through 1998.

Every vintage Mercedes 300 SL in the lineup packs a 6.0-liter M119 V8 engine rated at a respectable 380 hp (283 kW), a four-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch AMG alloy wheels, and rather lackluster side mirrors with plastic caps.

The cabin of each car makes use of premium leather upholstery on the seats, dashboard and the steering wheel. Other highlights include a retro-style instrument panel and a carbon-trimmed center console.

Frankly, we can’t quite decide whether we like the Mercedes 300 SL restomod by AMG or not. Could you perhaps provide your own insight?
