AMG, G-класс & Maybach to distance themselves from Mercedes-Benz

According to reports, Daimler AG will establish a separate division for its most upmarket products – the AMG, G-Class, and Maybach cars. All three sub-brands will be taken away from Mercedes-Benz.

The corporation is expected to make an official announcement to this effect during the 2021 IAA Munich expo in September. Allegedly, the German company hopes to optimize costs and raise profits through this reorganization. Öla Källenius, who has headed Mercedes-Benz since 2019, repeatedly mentioned his intention to trim the range down to only the most profitable models. Current Mercedes-AMG CEO Philipp Schiemer is set to assume leadership in this new luxury-oriented division.

There is little surprise that Daimler pays special interest towards there three sub-brands. Their combined sales volumes increased nearly sevenfold in 2011 through 2019, with various AMG models amounting for nearly 72% of all cars sold.

The corporation intends to bring an all-new plug-in hybrid vehicle to the market in 2022, which will be based on the Formula engine of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team. An electric G-Class should also be coming in the near future.
