Battery-powered vehicles will eventually phase out our traditional fossil fuel cars completely. It’s no longer a point of speculation, but a mere matter of time. Ironically enough, their noiselessness is hardly an environmentally-friendly feature.
Car manufacturers the world over are making great efforts to actually mimic the noise made by an internal combustion engine. Such noise generators are mandatory for all electric transport in Europe and the United States, since they allow pedestrians to hear approaching vehicles in advance. Once listening to approaching traffic becomes a habit, it is easy to get hit by a speeding battery car just because it is so silent. Furthermore, modern races just aren’t what they used to be without all the roaring engines.
Mercedes-Benz decided to address this problem from a creative angle. Mercedes-Benz EQ, a department dedicated exclusively to the development of electric vehicles, invited the famous band Linkin Park… to record a sound that would be associated with a working electric motor. The musicians will join efforts with the team of CGI producers and video game designers to produce the new Bercedes-Benz trademark engine sound.
Despite the fact that most Mercedes-Benz cars come to the market alongside their hybrid versions, the company won’t begin mass production of full-electric vehicles until mid-2020s.
