According to unofficial reports, supply chain issues have forced Mercedes-Benz to discontinue the sales of V8-powered cars in North America. Apparently, multiple dealerships have received letters to that effect.
The entire Mercedes vehicle range, from GLS through G to AMG, will be temporarily unavailable with eight cylinders under the hood. We’re told that the S580 Maybach is going to be the only exception, but the specifics behind such a decision are unknown.
It also remains uncertain how dealerships will deal with prepaid orders, as well as how long the limitations will be in place and whether they will ever affect other markets as well. As of right now, only year 2022 models are said to be affected.
While the news might sound grim to some of us, there is no avoiding the gradual market slide towards electrification. Even some AMG cars will soon drop their V8s for good, the C-Class in particular destined to become a hybrid with around 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) at the wheels and a turbo four-pot under the hood.
