Mercedes-AMG comes to Detroit with three new electrified 53-Series cars

Visitors to the Detroit International Motor Show 2018 may have a look at three new, electrified Mercedes-AMG 53-Series models: CLS53 4Matic+, E53 Coupe, and E53 Cabriolet.

All of the three cars are so-called “mild hybrids”. In the case at hand, this means a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 435 hp and 520 Nm torque working together with an EQ Boost unit delivering another 21 hp and 250 nm torque.

The mild hybrid system installed on these vehicles allows for better fuel conservation and less harmful emissions. On the other hand, it makes the car more agile and powerful. For instance, the new Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4Matic+ can accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.5 seconds and go at a maximum of 270 km/h (168 mph). It also consumes only 8.5 liters of fuel per 100 km traveled.

Speaking of other features, the driver will be offered several drive modes to select from, depending on the weather and road conditions.

Mercedes-AMG refused to give us price estimates for the new cars.
