Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers has told in an interview that the company was planning to release a new car with an 805-horsepower / 600 kW hybrid drivetrain initially seen on the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept that debuted in 2017.
The concept vehicle came equipped with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine working in tandem with a rear-axle mounted electric motor and a large battery array. It could accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds.
Tobias Moers said nothing about the estimated driving range and other technical specifications of the upcoming vehicle, but we can assume that Mercedes-AMG will attempt to preserve all principal features of the GT Concept in the production car. Prices and the launch date remain unknown, though.
There are other hybrid-powered vehicles in the Mercedes lineup. For instance, there is a GT 4-Door Coupe which mostly relies on its turbocharged V6 rated at 435 hp (324 kW) for movement. During rapid acceleration, however, it is assisted by a minor electric engine contributing another 22 hp (16.5 kW).
