Mercedes-Benz has revealed a humorous video presenting its upcoming EQ Concept all-electric car series. The first EQ will go on sale 2020 or later, but Mercedes expects the family to expand to 10 models until 2025.
The teaser video follows an EQ wheeling along a desert road in silence, the sound of the engine being the only distraction. The driver keeps looking back at the passenger in disapproval and eventually decides to give him the boot. A moment after we learn why: apparently, the passenger was the one who mimicked the engine sound, since the EQ is a completely silent car. So the whole video is essentially Mercedes-Benz’s message which goes “Goodbye, loud engines! Hello, electricity!”
The ad stars Daniel Jovanov, a famous beatboxer who became widely known for his ability to accurately reproduce the sound of a running car engine.
The Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept debuted at the Paris International Motor Show a year and a half ago. The car came equipped with two electric engines together capable of 408 hp (304 kW). It could cover up to 500 kilometers (310 miles) on a single charge and accelerate 0-100 (0-60 mph) in under 5 seconds.
Driven by an engine duo rated at 268 hp (200 kW), the Mercedes-Benz EQA will be the first vehicle in the EQ series to reach the market. The assembly should start in 2020 in the company’s works in France. Pricing will become available much closer to that date.
