Mercedes-Benz launches subscription service in test mode

Anyone with a smartphone can nowadays easily subscribe to Cadillac, Lincoln, BMW and Volvo car sharing services. Admittedly, Mercedes-Benz has been a little slow on the uptake in this respect. Well, at least until now.

The Mercedes-Benz Collection service has been launched in two US cities so far, Nashville and Philadelphia. Three subscription plans are available:

-         Signature ($1,095 USD / month). Grants access to CLA 45 AMG sedans, SLC roadsters, GLC SUVs and the C-Class sedans, coupes and convertibles;

-         Reserve ($1,595 USD / month). Grants access to SLC roadsters, AMG GLC 43 SUVs, GLE SUVs, and C-Class sedans and coupes;

-         Premier ($2,995 USD / month). Grants access to the entire Mercedes-Benz / AMG vehicle range, including the top-end models.

The Signature and Reserve subscriptions can be paid for on a daily basis ($50 and $75, respectively), but only as long as you activate your account for an additional $495.

The package includes roadside assistance, insurance and maintenance valid across the entire vehicle range. The company also undertakes to bring all requested cars to customer-specified destinations. If you don’t like your ride, you may switch to a different model any time of day or night.

It is hard to say whether the service is going to become popular, since its geography is still very limited. In the meantime, a rival service by Volvo is rapidly gaining in popularity in the North America. Subscription to the latter only costs $600, even though the only available model is the Volvo XC40.
