Mercedes-Benz unveils stone sculpture of future electro-racecar

Sometimes a design sketch or a photo just isn’t enough to grab the attention of the masses. That’s when companies go out on a limb to impress their target audiences. Our today’s hero is Mercedes-Benz, who revealed a stone sculpture of a single-seat sports car, both a reference to a vintage vehicle and a sketch of a future all-electric racecar.

The sculpture looks like the aerodynamically-shaped Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen built in the faraway 1930s. Piloted by Rudolf Caracchiola some eighty years ago, the vehicle accelerated to unthinkable 433 km/h (269 mph). The current world record of 457 km/h (280 mph) is held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS.

The company has built one copy of the electric supercar and will be revealing it this August. The vehicle will act as the flagship of the brand and the promoter of its all-electric lineup, the EQ.  To that end, it will come equipped with a powertrain capable of exceeding 750 hp (560 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb·ft) of torque.
