Sotheby’s to sell world’s only Mercedes-AMG GT3

Sotheby’s will be holding an auction for a unique Mercedes-AMG GT3 racecar that never made it to the actual racetrack. Mercedes expects up to U.S. $500,000 out of the deal. All money will be redirected to charity funds.

The supercar sports a body that appears chrome-coated but is actually mirror-polished. It wears a carbon-fiber aerodynamic package consisting of gills, two rear wings, a front and a rear diffusor, and a radiator grille. It also features a straight-through exhaust system.

The interior of the vehicle also makes intensive use of carbon fiber. This includes the dashboard, the door cards and the instrument panel.

The unique racing coupe was built to celebrate 50 years of AMG. It received a 6.3L V8 engine capable of 630 hp (470 kW). The mass-issue Mercedes-AMG GT3 normally ships with a 550-hp (410 kW) engine instead.
