Espied: Mercedes-AMG A45 running laps on the Nürburgring

Mercedes-AMG has proceeded with the final tests of its new A45. Car spotters have managers to photograph the sporty vehicle burning the tires on the Nürburgring Circuit, wearing only the minimal amount of test mule mascara.

Despite the cladded front and rear, there is no denying that the Mercedes-AMG A45 looks much sportier and more agile than the A35. The restyled radiator grille with vertical fins, the large trunk spoiler and the quad pipes all contribute to the impression.

Among other things, Mercedes claims the engineering department has made substantial improvements to the steering, braking, and suspension of the car. In its top trim version, it will ship with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 415 hp / 309 kW (down to 383 hp / 286 kW in the more affordable trims). This kind of performance makes the hot hatch one of the fastest vehicles in its market segment.

The manufacturer does not seem eager to quote acceleration figures just yet, but it is only logical to assume that its lower weight, enhanced aerodynamics and extra power will enable it to conclude the standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint much faster than the previous-gen AMG A45, which manages it in 4.2 seconds.

Rumors say that Mercedes may unveil the car on its website in late summer and subsequently bring it to the 2019 International Motor Show Germany in September. This remains to be seen, though.
