Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe to get 800 hp in a new top trim version

Mercedes-AMG reports it is currently working on a new modification of its GT 4-Door supercar. Unofficial sources add the new flagship will be called ‘GT73’ and will arrive on the market packing a hybrid drivetrain with around 800 hp / 600 kW at its disposal.

The hybrid system will allegedly consist of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a front-axle mounted electric motor. The all-electric driving range likely won’t exceed 50 kilometers (31 miles).

The new GT will probably sprint from zero to 100 km/h in less than three seconds, the rumors say. We will not know for sure until the car debuts officially in 2020, though.

The GT 63 S currently occupies the top position in the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe range. Propelled forward by a 4.0-liter V8 engine sending 640 hp (477 kW) to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission, it makes the 0-100 run in mere 3.2 seconds before maxing out at 315 km/h (196 mph).
