Car spotters have repeatedly sighted the maxed-out Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series during its pre-production tests; now, it is official that it comes out earlier than expected.
Mercedes-AMG says that the Black Series will launch in 2020. No other specifics are provided.
The SLS AMG, which went out of production several years ago, was the only Black Series vehicle on Mercedes record. It came powered by a naturally aspirated V8 rated at 630 hp (470 kW).
The drivetrain specs of the upcoming GT Black Series remain a mystery. The current flagship, AMG GT R, ships with the company’s signature 4.0 V8 TT mill good for 585 hp (430 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The Black Series could get a boost to approximately 650 hp (485 kW), but this is far from being official.
AMG will also be unveiling a hybrid-powered ‘Four-Door Coupe’ rated north of 700 hp (522 kW) next year.
