Mercedes-AMG has confirmed rumors that the upcoming GT Black Series packs 730 horsepower (537 kW) under the hood and is therefore the second most powerful Mercedes in history.
The engineering team took pains to bring the performance of the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 to 730 PS (537 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. Apparently, the main goal was to ensure it beat the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with its 3.8-liter V6 and 700 PS (515 kW). New piston design reportedly played a major role in achieving this.
Rumors go on to claim that the blackest GT utilizes a seven-speed DSG transmission and doesn’t hit its speed ceiling until 320 km/h (199 mph). Both remain to be confirmed.
The Mercedes-AMG One is the strongest production car with the three-point star badge on it at the moment. It packs a 1,000-hp (745-kW) hybrid powertrain and is yet to be released.
