Mercedes has rolled out a slight update for the AMG GT coupe and roadster lineup, improving the base trim level to the point where it can replace the old GT S.
The car’s four-liter, dual-turbo V8 went from 476 hp and 630 Nm of torque to 530 hp and 670 Nm, rendering the GT S with its 522 hp and 670 Nm redundant. This is why Mercedes will no longer be offering the S version.
The seven-speed DSG transmission stays unmodified, but adaptive suspension, electronic diff lock and compound brakes with red calipers are all listed under standard equipment now. The Race mode, previously reserved for the S spec, also makes its way into the baseline spec.
For the first time on record, options for the AMG GT include four-wheel steering (4WS). Then there is the Night Edition package that spruces things up with assorted dark details and even introduces a carbon fiber roof (coupe only). Last but hardly least, the heavy and bulky lead-acid battery makes way for a much smaller and lighter lithium-ion one.
The lineup now looks as follows: GT (530 hp), GT C (557 hp), GT R (585 hp), and GT Black Series (730 hp). The first three are valid for both the coupe and the roadster, while the Black Series is coupe-only.
You can grab a refreshed Mercedes-AMG GT starting from €119,000 (coupe) or €131,000 (roadster).
