Mercedes-AMG preparing for a Nürburgring comeback

Ever since the Porsche Panamera Turbo S won the title of the fastest executive car on the North Loop, Mercedes-AMG has been preparing to reclaim the leadership.

The Panamera managed to lap up the entire 20.6-kilometer (12.8-mile) long racetrack in 7:25.04, or &:29.81 if you count the recently added 200m (656ft.) stretch. In both cases, it came mere 0.3 seconds ahead of the Mercedes.

The AMG department is now considering putting the hardcore GT 73e spec (shown on the photos) to the ‘Ring trials. The car packs 800 metric horsepower (590 kilowatts) and will likely go for the record before debuting as a production model – just like Porsche did with the Panamera.
