Misha Charudin, a car vlogger and instructor at the Nürburgring, has unofficially reported a new record: according to him, the newest Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series managed to beat the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and become the North Loop’s fastest production car ever.
Charudin claims that it only took 6 minutes 43 seconds for the supercar to lap up the entire track. Racing in the summer of 2018, the Aventador SVJ finished in 6:44.97. Furthermore, the alleged new record dethrones the Porsche GT2 RS MR, which ran the course in 6:44.749 a couple of years ago. The latter has been tuned by Manthey-Racing and is therefore not considered a “pure” production car, even though it remains remarkably road-legal.
The manufacturer has yet to confirm the time reported by Charudin.
As impressive as the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and Mercedes-AMG Black Series both are, they are still handicapped by their “production car” status. If you look for the absolute champion of the ‘Ring, that would be the Porsche 919 Evo – a purebred racecar, not mass-produced, that completed the lap in barely conceivable 5 minutes 19.54 seconds.
