Maro Engel, the professional racing driver who piloted a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series in the allegedly record-setting Nürburgring run a couple of days ago, tweeted that the rumors were false, after all. Apparently, Mercedes was simply testing its newest supercar on the ‘Ring.
The original statement came from Misha Charudin, a Nürburgring instructor and vlogger, who posted a video claiming that a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series lapped up the North Loop in under 6 minutes 43 seconds, dethroniong the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ with its 6 minuts 44.97 seconds. Now, Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver Maro Engel says no attempt record was made in the first place.
The Mercedes-AMG subdivision actually is hoping to set a new ‘Ring record soon, but one that is different from the one reported. The carmaker expects its newest AMG GT73e 4-Door Coupe to beat the 630-PS (470-kW) strong Porsche Panamera Turbo S in the Executive Car category.
