Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series gets boosted to 1,111 HP, keeps RWD

When Mercedes introduced the GT flagship back in 2015, it made do with only 456 hp (340 kilowatts). Power proceeded to increase until culminating at 720 hp (537 kW) in the Black Series. German tuner Opus decided it wasn’t enough.

The company will soon start offering four different upgrade kits for the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. The topmost one, Stage 4, involves replacing most powertrain components, as well as extensive changes in air intake and exhaust systems. The net result is 1,111 horsepower (828 kW) hitting the rear wheels. You would be justified to think this kind of power would be hard to manage, and indeed the tuner offers a software tune that keeps the torque down to acceptable levels at all times. This results in better traction and drivetrain longevity.

Those seeking to save a bit on the deal are offered 1,001, 920 and 825 horsepower options (746, 686 and 615 kW, respectively). The two affordable ones will go on sale in mid-April, while the two high-end ones will be ready by June, Opus says.
