Mercedes-AMG has revealed a number of interesting details about the impending release of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition1 top-of-the-line coupe series. The vehicles will reach the market in September 2018 and only remain in stock for one year, i.e. until September 2019.
Each four-door coupe comes equipped with a massive front splitter, an improved diffusor for additional downforce, and a manually adjustable rear spoiler. All of the above serve to further reduce the aerodynamic resistance.
You can tell Edition1 cars from the regular series by characteristic grey stripes that read ‘AMG’, forged dual-tint wheels, and the original pearlescent dark grey body lacquering.
The interior of the car makes use of black Nappa and grey Magma leather alongside the occasional carbon garnish. The seats and some interior features sport yellow thread stitching. There is a multi-function steering wheel wrapped in microfiber and housing a 12-point dial to help with the orientation, as well as a name badge in the center.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition1 still relies on an old-and-proven four-liter, eight-cylinder engine with dual turbochargers. In its stock version, the unit can deliver up to 630 hp (470 kW), but the limited series may benefit from a performance increase. Whether it gets that or not, it is going to be all-wheel-driven and come with nine-speed automatic transmission.
Acceleration performance isn’t being discussed this early on, but the car can safely be expected to get to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 3 seconds and ultimately climb all the way up to 300 km/h (187 mph) and beyond.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition1 will celebrate its first public appearance at the ADAC Zurich 24-hour endurance race in the coming weekend. Preorders will open this summer.
