Mercedes-AMG unveils the GT R Pro (2019), its new flagship

Mercedes-AMG has taken the metaphorical wraps off the youngest member of the GT family. Called the GT R Pro (2019), the newcomer shares much with its predecessors (GT, GT S, GT C, and GT R) and even packs the same engine.

The engine in question is capable of 585 hp (436 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lbft) of torque. Piloting the GT R Pro, Maro Engel has managed to complete the North Loop of Nürburgring in just 7:04.62, beating the record set by the GT R (7:10.09). But how many, exactly, will be willing to pay extra buck for six seconds of difference? Let us set this straight: the new GT R Pro (2019) comes with the minimal price tag of €211,701, whereas its predecessor begins almost €45,000 lower, at €167,000.

On the outside, the flagship coupe sports a restyled front apron dominated by a huge splitter secured in place with the help of metal bars. It also has air louvers in the fenders and a carbon roof which now resides slightly lower than before. The rear has vertical aero components on it, as well as a huge fixed rear wing with a Gurney flap.

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro 2019 holds more novelty, including carbon bucket seats, a 12.3” all-digital dash, a touchscreen display on the center console, and the trademark AMG Performance wheel with a drive mode selector.

Customers in Europe may also take advantage of the optional Track Package, which includes a stainless-steel roll cage, four-point safety harnesses, and a fire extinguisher.
