Video: Porsche 911 Carrera S vs. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC

An interesting video has recently cropped up on YouTube, showing a Porsche 911 going up against a Mercedes-AMG on a quarter-mile long drag strip. Think you know the winner? Think again!

Of course, the opponents are by no means equal. The AMG ride comes powered by a high-end dual-turbo V8 with four liters of displacement and 639 PS (630 hp, 470 kW) at the crank. The 911 only has three liters at its disposal, six cylinders and 450 PS (330 kW). Furthermore, the Porsche comes rear-wheel driven, whereas Mercedes sends the torque to all four wheels.

The one area where Porsche decidedly prevails is the curb weight: only 1,542 kilograms (3,400 lbs) against the 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs) of the Mercedes. But will it be enough to claim victory?

Apparently not. Despite its considerable added bulk, the AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC zaps through the strip much faster owing to its 200 extra horses, while the Carrera S plods behind.

You win this round, Mercedes! As for us, we will be waiting for the new Porsche 911 Turbo to arrive and try to settle the score.
