G-Class EV, a hypercar and 30 others: Mercedes-Benz unveils far-reaching plans

Daimler AG has unveiled the latest Mercedes-Benz roadmap, according to which the brand will have designed 32 new cars by late 2022, most of them electrified to some extent.

We have already heard that the Mercedes-Benz EQC SUV will be getting smaller siblings called EQA and EQB, as well as a large liftback version called EQS (watch the video for a glimpse of the concept car). The plans also mention an EQE and EQG. The former should logically be the electrified/all-electric variant of the E-Class, whereas the latter is going to provide a nature-friendlier alternative to the iconic G-Wagon. Rumors that an all-electric G-Class was coming up started circulating last fall, but the company never commented on them or provided any release dates.

The EQ family will further expand to incorporate new Smart vehicles co-designed with Geely to replace the old fortwo and forfour. A completely new EQ SUV is also in the works, according to the documents.

Sports cars are getting their fair share of attention, too. A Black Series coupe and a GT 73 liftback will complement the Mercedes-AMG GT range. All other AMG models will gradually transition from their V8 twin-turbos to gasoline/electric powertrains based on Ice engines with smaller displacement and fuel consumption. In 2021, the long-anticipated Mercedes-AMG One hypercar should emerge at last. The AMG department had previously encountered production difficulties when reworking the racecar engine to be suitable for everyday use, but those difficulties have reportedly been resolved.

Finally, all-new Mercedes-Benz C- and S-Class should celebrate their reveals soon, possibly simultaneously with the E-Class facelift.
