Mercedes-AMG One spied out in the open yet again

Mercedes still doesn’t give up on the idea to bring its first hybrid hypercar – the AMG One – to the market. Revealed three years ago (see video), the coupe is apparently still too rough around the edges to show in its full glory. Today, yet another test sample appeared on a public road in Germany.

The new mule boasts a larger air scoop on the roof and a more detailed front bumper. Aside from that, little can be said about its appearance or equipment.

The main issue Mercedes encountered while designing the One was taking a Formula 1 racecar engine and making it viable as an everyday-use motor. The 1.6-liter V6 unit can rev up to 11,000 RPM, which is surely impressive, but the engineers still struggle to keep it from degrading or breaking completely after mere 50,000 kilometers (31,000 miles) of use.

Initially scheduled for launch in 2019, Mercedes now promises to start shipping the One in 2021. Production plans exist for a total of 275 hypercars, and the entire batch is already sold out despite the €2.5 million price tag.
