Next-gen Mercedes-AMG C 63 to get permanent 4WD

Based on Mercedes’ recently revealed strategy of moving the entire AMG vehicle range to all-wheel drive systems, the next C-Class to hit the market will also be ditching its RWD in favor of the company’s signature 4matic+ transmission.

The current-gen C-Class AMG sedans/saloons – namely, the C 63 and the C 63 S – remain the only two rear-drive models on the AMG lineup. The rest have already switched to the abovementioned AWD system, which features a Drift Mode that allows you to redirect the entire torque to the rear axle.

An anonymous source, allegedly from Mercedes-AMG, claims that the upcoming C 63 will be receiving the same range of evolutionary upgrades as its big brother, the E 63. This includes the 4matic+. The next C-Class should debut sometime in 2021 packing the familiar 4.0-liter V8 rated at 470 hp (350 kW) in the C 63 and 500 hp (373 kW) in the C 63 S. An improved version of the AMG SpeedShift MCT 7-speed auto transmission will send the power to the wheels.
