Rumor: Next-gen Mercedes-AMG C 63 to gain more engine power

Sources from inside Mercedes-AMG have leaked what they claim to be the specs of the next-gen C-Class.

According to them, the fifth generation will ship with 4Matic+ by default and ditch the 4.0-liter V8 engine in favor of an electrified powertrain, allegedly based on a 2.0 four-cylinder turbo engine (M139) assisted by an EQ-Power+ motor.

Using the world’s most powerful four-cylinder engine will enable the Mercedes-AMG C 63 to lose weight and optimize the weight distribution between axles. Nominally rated at 421 hp (314 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, Mercedes hopes to be able to boost the mill to 500 hp (373 kW) or even beyond that. The maximum torque is expected to hit 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), and the EQ-Boost add-on will draw power from the 48V on-board battery to grant the car an additional 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) when necessary.

The fifth generation of the Mercedes-AMG C-Class will be unveiled before 2022.
