Mercedes has announced the performance version of its next-gen CLA sedan/saloon. The company should reveal the car at the 2019 New York International Motor Show.
The new Mercedes-AMG CLA35 4Matic has the same engine as the Mercedes-AMG A-Class hatchback: the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine rated at 306 hp (229 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque. The car will take advantage of an AWD system and a seven-speed DCT transmission.
Normally, the car redirects all of its torque to the front axle, but switches to AWD (50/50 percent torque distribution) when you select the corresponding mode.
The company does not reveal just how fast the car goes, but its close sibling – the Mercedes-AMG A35 – speeds from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and maxes out at 250 km/h (155 mph) only because its electronics says so. It seems likely that AMG will eventually release A45 versions of its a-Class and CLA models, capable of around 400 hp (298 kW).
